Anil Kapoor calls wife Sunita Kapoor’s contribution ‘tremendous’ ahead of ‘Subedaar’ release

Anil Kapoor, who is gearing up for his new film ‘Subedaar’, recently spoke about his wife Sunita Kapoor and the vital role she has played in both his personal and professional life. As the release approaches, the veteran actor reflected on how her unwavering support helped him navigate the pressures of stardom.

Drawing from real life for ‘Subedaar’

Talking about his character in ‘Subedaar’, Anil Kapoor revealed that he drew from his own marriage to understand the emotional depth required for the role. The film explores the tug-of-war between duty, family, and personal love. He shared in an interview with The Indian Express, “In Subedaar, I think I dug into my relationship with my wife. ”

He added that his bond with his daughters is different — more like a friendship. “Of course, I don’t have this kind of relationship with my daughters. Rhea, Sonam and I, we are like friends…”

Anil went on to describe the layered love he feels for his work, his country, and his partner.

“The love which I have for my wife, and the love for my work… waha I am… the love for the nation. ” He admitted that balancing these emotions is not easy. “I love my nation, I love my work also, but how do I (pauses) get that in that? Then of course I love my wife. ”

A partner who understood his passion

The actor also opened up about the constant conflict between professional commitments and family responsibilities. He explained how work often pulls him away even when his loved ones need him. “Kabhi kabhi ye bhi hota hai, situation ki film mein scene ye hai ki he is there doing his duty; he has to be with his wife also. ”

He said the instinct is often to prioritise work. “But he is like, let me finish my duty and then I will be with you.” According to Anil, this internal struggle mirrors real life. “So that conflict, which is always there in your life also.”

He acknowledged that ambition can leave a person feeling divided.

“Where you want to become a better father, better husband, better friend… but sometimes you are a person who is so passionate about his work also. ” Ultimately, he credited Sunita’s understanding. “Sometimes why I say that my wife’s contribution is tremendous is because she could understand my madness and my love for my work. ” He further added that she made immense sacrifices to allow him to remain true to himself: “She sacrificed so much to understand and let me be. Let me work, let me be myself. ”

A bond spanning four decades

Anil and Sunita married in 1984 and have built a family deeply rooted in cinema, raising Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, and Harshvardhan Kapoor. Over the years, he has frequently praised her quiet strength and resilience.

‘Subedaar’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 5 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, and features Radhikka Madan alongside a strong ensemble cast.
