TCS Faces Labour Commissioner Summons Over Alleged Illegal Layoffs

The Pune Labour Commissioner has officially summoned Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) following multiple complaints filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) concerning alleged illegal terminations and unlawful job cuts. A hearing has been scheduled for November 18, 2025.

Key Developments

  • Pune Labour Commissioner summons TCS over NITES complaints
  • Hearing scheduled for November 18, 2025
  • Complaints allege illegal termination and unlawful layoffs
  • TCS reportedly planning to trim 2% of global workforce

Official NITES Statement

“The Labour Commissioner Office, Pune has issued summons to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in multiple matters filed by NITES concerning illegal termination of employment and unlawful layoffs. The hearing has been scheduled for 18 November 2025,” NITES said in a post on X.

Employee Complaints and Union Action

Over recent months, NITES has received numerous complaints from TCS employees across various locations regarding abrupt terminations, forced resignations, denial of statutory dues, and coercive employment practices.

After reviewing grievances and supporting documents, NITES assisted affected employees in filing formal complaints with the competent authority.

“The initiation of proceedings by the Labour Commissioner reinforces that every employer is legally bound to follow due process and cannot act in violation of labour laws,” said the IT employee union.

Support for Affected Employees

NITES is encouraging employees who have faced similar issues to come forward and assert their rights. The union emphasized that legal protections are available for those experiencing wrongful termination, forced resignation, non-payment of dues, or unfair treatment.

“Raising your grievance formally is an important step toward ensuring accountability and safeguarding your employment rights. NITES remains committed to supporting IT and ITES employees who require guidance or assistance,” the X post stated.

TCS Workforce Reduction

TCS had reported a sequential headcount decline of approximately 19,755 employees as of Q2 FY216. During the company’s Q2 earnings conference in October, Chief HR Officer Sudeep Kunnumal stated that TCS had released one percent or 6,000 people from its workforce as part of restructuring exercises.

TCS is yet to officially respond to the NITES post and the Labour Commissioner’s summons.
