Volkswagen Tayron R-Line launched in India at Rs 46.99 lakh

Volkswagen has launched the Tayron R-Line in India at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom), marking its return to the premium three-row SUV segment. The new SUV sits above the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line in the brand’s portfolio and effectively fills the space left behind by the discontinued Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

Exterior design

The Tayron R-Line adopts Volkswagen’s signature R-Line design language, characterised by sportier bumpers, R-Line badging and 19-inch alloy wheels. It features redesigned LED headlamps and tail-lamps compared to the Tiguan, along with connected rear lighting and an illuminated Volkswagen logo that enhances its road presence.

Underpinned by the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron is significantly larger than the Tiguan R-Line to accommodate three rows of seating. It measures 4,792mm in length, 1,866mm in width and 1,665mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,789mm.

With the third row folded, boot space expands to an impressive 850 litres, making it a practical option for larger families.

Interior design

Inside, the Tayron R-Line offers a premium and technology-rich interior. The dashboard is dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. A three-spoke steering wheel, silver dashboard trim running across the cabin, illuminated R branding and 30-colour ambient lighting further elevate the cabin experience.

Feature highlights include an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, ventilation and massage functions, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, three-zone climate control and an augmented reality-based head-up display.

Powertrain option

Powering the Tayron R-Line is the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine also seen on the Tiguan R-Line. The motor produces 204bhp and 320Nm of torque and comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system.

Performance figures are impressive for a three-row SUV, with a claimed 0–100kmph time of 7.3 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 224kmph.

Safety

On the safety front, the Tayron R-Line comes equipped with nine airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS features. The SUV has also secured a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests conducted in 2025, underlining its strong safety credentials.

The Tayron R-Line enters the premium three-row SUV space where it will compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster.
