PMCH head nurse beaten to death by husband over Holi visit dispute

A 30-year-old head nurse of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at their residence in Shriram Nagar, East Gola Road under Danapur police station area of Patna on Friday night after a dispute over her refusal to visit his parental home in Saran for Holi. The deceased was identified as Chandni Kumari (30), whose body was found lying on the floor, police said.

According to the police, her husband Sonu Kumar, son of Ajay Kumar and a native of Karanpura under Ekma police station in Saran, has been arrested. He had been living at his brother-in-law’s house in Danapur. The couple had an argument on Friday evening when Sonu asked Chandni to travel to his family’s home in Chhapra for Holi. The fight escalated, and he allegedly assaulted her, leading to her death. After the incident, Sonu took their two-year-old son to his home in Chhapra before returning to Danapur and calling Dial 112 around 2am on Saturday to report the murder.

Danapur SHO Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj said the body was sent for post-mortem and the FSL team collected evidence from the spot. “Further action will be taken based on the investigation. The victim’s maternal family members have lodged a written complaint,” he said. He added that the accused confessed to the crime.

“Prima facie, it appears she was beaten to death. There are multiple bruises on her body, especially on her back. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem and FSL reports,” the SHO said. The couple married on Feb 6, 2023, and has a two-year-old son. Chandni’s family has also alleged constant harassment over dowry demands.
