The recently released Telugu comedy-drama ‘Funky’ starring Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar is preparing for its digital release after failing to make an impact in theatres. The film which is directed by Anudeep KV is described as another attempt by the filmmaker to tap into his signature comic tone, known from his earlier hit Jathi Ratnalu.
OTT release date and platform
As per a report from Filmibeat, Funky is expected to release on March 13, 2026 on Netflix. The report also confirms that the film will be available in five languages. Along with the original Telugu version, viewers can stream it in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Other reports also say that that ‘Funky’ might come earlier and possibly in the first week of March 2026.
Plot: A director caught between setbacks and desperation
‘Funky’ follows the life of Komal who is a young film director facing repeated failures. The protagonist’s project suffers delays due to budget issues. Komal decides to approach the producer’s daughter, Chitra, in an attempt to revive his stalled dreams. The film explores the consequences of that decision. It also looks at the inner world of those struggling behind the scenes in cinema.
Box office performance shows sharp decline
‘Funky’ failed to generate momentum at the box office. As reported by Sacnilk website it opened with Rs. 2.50 crore.
The film then slipped to Rs. 2 crore on its second day. Even the advantage of Valentine’s Day could not help it. On Day 3 the film earned Rs. 1. 75 crore, ending its weekend with a downward trend.
Critical response: Strong performances but weak writing
The ETimes review reads, “Vishwak Sen fits the role of a desperate but misunderstood filmmaker, but his performance feels convincing only in parts. Kayadu Lohar performs well as Chitra, bringing ease to her role. However, their chemistry is undermined by a weak script. Naresh leaves a mark despite limited screen time, and the supporting cast delivers steady performances. Cameos by popular directors and producers add an interesting touch and enhance the film’s appeal. “
For now, viewers can expect ‘Funky’ to arrive on March 13 unless an early release is officially confirmed.
