With Avengers: Doomsday approaching, Chris Hemsworth has shared that he plans to portray Thor a ‘couple more times’ following the 2026 Marvel superhero film. While hinting at the fifth installment of Thor, the actor opened up about his discussions with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
In an interview with Smartless Podcast, Hemsworth said that after Avengers: Doomsday, he and Marvel Studios already have plans for Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He revealed that he will continue playing the superhero after his return in the film, which releases on December 18, 2026.
The actor said, “Yeah, it’s wild. I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character. Whatever we do next — we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be (different).”
In July 2025, during a press roundtable, Kevin Feige emphasised his belief that Chris Hemsworth remains in his prime to continue portraying Thor, as reported by Deadline. While the Marvel Studios president was vocal about the actor’s future, he refrained from disclosing any concrete details regarding Thor 5 at that stage.
After directing both Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi will not be returning to helm the franchise’s fifth installment. Speaking to Insider in 2025, the filmmaker clarified his absence, noting that he is stepping away to focus on a slate of other projects he has already committed to.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who previously helmed some of Marvel’s most successful outings. The film reportedly brings together two Avengers teams, one led by Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and another comprising the New Avengers. Actor Robert Downey Jr portrays the antagonist Dr Doom in the film.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
