Assured markey vegetable scheme set to break records

The Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) is set to surpass previous records under its Promotion of Vegetable with Assured Market scheme, with current fiscal year figures nearing last year’s peak.

According to official data, 1,399.8 tonnes of vegetables were procured from farmers till December 2025 in 2025–26, with Rs 517.8 lakh disbursed.

In comparison, the highest annual procurement so far was recorded in 2024–25 at 1,662.4 tonnes, with Rs 684.2 lakh paid to farmers.

With data for three months in the financial year yet to be added, officials expect both procurement volumes and farmer payouts to exceed last year’s totals.

“The Promotion of Vegetable with Assured Market scheme was designed to provide farmers with guaranteed market access and stable returns, reducing their dependence on changing open markets. By directly procuring vegetables, we ensure that farmers receive timely payments and fair pricing,” said GSHCL managing director, Chandrahas Desai.

Under the scheme, GSHCL procured 965.6 tonnes of vegetables in 2019–20, paying farmers Rs 414.8 lakh.

Despite fluctuations in subsequent years, procurement volumes showed a strong upward trend overall.

In 2020–21, it purchased 1,121.8 tonnes, disbursing Rs 406.6 lakh to farmers. However, procurement dipped to 920.6 tonnes in 2021–22, with payments amounting to Rs 323.3 lakh. The following year saw recovery, with 1,091.1 tonnes procured and Rs 433.7 lakh paid out.

The most significant growth came in 2023–24, when procurement surged to 1,509.1 tonnes and payments climbed to Rs 594.6 lakh. This upward trajectory continued into 2024–25, recording the highest procurement in the period under review, followed by the numbers for 2025–26 (till Dec).
