India Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Immediately Amid Rising Tensions

India Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Immediately Amid Rising Tensions

Key Takeaways:

  • India has issued a fresh advisory urging all nationals in Iran to leave “by available commercial means.”
  • New Delhi has also advised against all travel to Iran until further notice.
  • The warning follows escalating regional tensions after an Israeli strike on Iran’s consulate in Damascus.

India has urgently advised its citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately, citing escalating tensions in the Middle East. The government has asked nationals to depart using any available commercial flights or means.

Embassy Issues Stern Warning

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued a clear directive: “In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indians are advised not to travel to Iran until further notice.” The embassy stressed that all Indians currently residing in Iran must register with them immediately.

The advisory calls for “utmost caution” and asks citizens to restrict their movements. “They should get in touch with the Indian embassy in Tehran,” the statement added. The embassy confirmed it is monitoring the situation closely and is in touch with Iranian authorities and regional partners.

Background: Rising Iran-Israel Tensions

This latest advisory follows a similar warning issued earlier this week against travel to both Iran and Israel. The heightened alert comes after a significant escalation on April 1, when an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

The attack killed at least seven officials, including senior Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammed Reza Zahedi. Iran has publicly vowed retaliation, raising serious concerns of a broader regional conflict.

The Indian government’s priority remains the safety of its citizens abroad as the geopolitical situation remains volatile.
