In a significant development, 50 of the 303 schoolchildren abducted from a Catholic school in north-central Nigeria’s Niger state have managed to escape their captors. According to school authorities, the children have been safely reunited with their families.
The Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger state and proprietor of the school, confirmed that the students escaped separately between Friday and Saturday. The children, aged between 10 and 18 years, fled captivity during November 21-22.
Despite this positive development, the situation remains critical. Yohanna confirmed that 253 schoolchildren and 12 teachers are still being held by the kidnappers, highlighting the ongoing security crisis in the region.
