  • G20 Global Healthcare Response Team: Multinational teams of medical experts for rapid deployment during emergencies
  • G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus: Coordinated action against dangerous substances like fentanyl

Focus on Africa and Global Health

PM Modi stressed that Africa’s progress is vital for global progress, expressing pride that the African Union gained permanent G20 membership during India’s presidency.

On healthcare cooperation, he noted, “We are stronger when we work together in the face of health emergencies and natural disasters,” advocating for prepared multinational medical teams.

Cultural Connections and Bilateral Meetings

During his Johannesburg visit, PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora, with cultural performances representing 11 Indian states. He described a South African Girmitiya song performance in Bhojpuri and Tamil as a “joyful and emotional experience” reflecting enduring cultural bonds.

The Prime Minister also met with tech entrepreneurs and Bharat Ko Janiye quiz winners, strengthening diaspora connections with India. Ahead of summit discussions, he held bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, reviewing cooperation in defence, nuclear energy, trade, and education sectors.
