India Becomes Global Digital Powerhouse Through DPI: Official

India Emerges as Global Digital Powerhouse Through DPI

A senior government official has declared India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) a transformative force, enabling universal service access, bridging urban-rural divides, and cementing the nation’s status as a global digital leader.

Key Takeaways

  • India’s DPI is recognized as one of the world’s most advanced digital infrastructures.
  • Initiatives like Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker have revolutionized governance and citizen services.
  • Strong cybersecurity frameworks and indigenous solutions are critical for digital sovereignty.

Digital India’s Transformative Impact

Vinay Thakur, Special DG at BISAG-N, Ministry of Electronics and IT, emphasized the scale and evolution of India’s DPI during an event organized by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA). He highlighted how flagship initiatives including Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker, BharatNet, Co-WIN, UMANG, MeghRaj Cloud, and BISAG-N’s GIS platforms have collectively transformed public service delivery and citizen empowerment.

Visionary Leadership and Digital Empowerment

Thakur, a national expert in digital governance, credited these achievements to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India movement. The initiative aims to build a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, with technology serving as a tool for social inclusion, transparency, and economic acceleration.

Cybersecurity and Digital Sovereignty

The official stressed the urgent need for robust cybersecurity frameworks to protect India’s expanding digital ecosystem. He highlighted rising cyber threats, the importance of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, AI-enabled attacks, and the critical requirement for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). Thakur emphasized that indigenous solutions are essential for maintaining digital sovereignty.

Industry and Academic Engagement

The session began with a welcome address by IICA Director General and CEO Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, who underscored the importance of future-ready digital skills and secure technologies in shaping India’s socio-economic progress. The event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty and students, with an interactive Q&A session exploring digital governance, data protection, cloud security, and emerging technologies.
