Phased Reopening Process

The restoration of services began gradually with security checks. On Saturday, DMRC initially reopened Gates 2 and 3, announcing on X: “Gate number 2 & 3 at Lal Quila Metro station are now open for commuters.” Other gates remained closed as a precaution before the full reopening on Sunday.

Security Closure Details

The station was completely closed “until further notice” following Thursday’s powerful blast near the Red Fort that killed 12 people and injured several others. The temporary suspension significantly impacted daily commuters visiting historic areas including , Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid.

Investigation Developments

As security measures were implemented, new CCTV footage emerged showing the prime accused, Dr Nabi Umar Un Nabi, entering Delhi through the Badarpur border in an i20 car. The footage clearly showed his face despite wearing a mask, with a large bag visible in the backseat of the vehicle.

The full reopening is expected to ease movement across Old Delhi, particularly during peak hours, as metro services return to normal on this crucial Violet Line route.
