Red Fort Car Blast: Security Tightened for Delhi Ranji Trophy Match

Security Enhanced at Delhi Stadium After Red Fort Car Blast

Security has been tightened at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium following a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort that killed at least eight people on Monday evening. The Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir will proceed as scheduled with enhanced security measures.

Key Developments

  • Car blast near Red Fort Metro Station kills 8 people
  • Delhi Police to deploy additional security at Arun Jaitley Stadium
  • Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and J&K to continue as planned
  • Investigation ongoing with all angles being examined

Stadium Security Measures

Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed security would be “beefed up” around the stadium premises. “I would be getting in touch with Delhi Police authorities and request them to deploy additional security outside the stadium premises,” Sharma told PTI.

Red Fort Incident Details

The explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. According to reports, three to four nearby vehicles caught fire and sustained damage. Seven fire tenders and a Delhi Police Special Cell team immediately responded to the scene.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated the blast happened when the car approached a traffic signal, damaging multiple vehicles and causing fires. The incident has triggered panic in the capital and is being investigated as a possible terrorist attack.

Investigation Status

Home Minister Shah emphasized that investigators are keeping all possibilities open. “We are keeping all angles open and investigating from all angles. It is very difficult to say what caused the incident,” Shah said.

He added that definitive conclusions would only emerge after forensic analysis: “Until the samples recovered from the blast site are analysed by FSL and NSG, it is difficult to say anything about it. However, we do not consider any angle closed. We will investigate all angles with determination.”

The final day of the Ranji Trophy match will proceed with heightened security protocols in place.
