Tesla Cybertruck Chief Siddhant Awasthi Departs After 8 Years

Key Takeaways

  • Siddhant Awasthi, head of Tesla’s Cybertruck program, has left the company after eight years.
  • He started as an intern and rose to lead the Cybertruck from concept to mass production.
  • His departure coincides with slowing EV sales and challenges for the Cybertruck.

Tesla’s Cybertruck program lead, Siddhant Awasthi, has departed from the electric vehicle maker after more than eight years. Awasthi announced his exit in a LinkedIn post on Sunday.

He began his career at Tesla as an intern and was instrumental in steering the Cybertruck from its initial concept to large-scale production. His responsibilities included overseeing engineering, product strategy, quality, and supply chain management for the vehicle.

“Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day lead the Cybertruck program,” Awasthi wrote.

In July, Awasthi also took over leadership of Tesla’s Model 3 program. His departure comes at a critical time for Tesla, which is facing a general slowdown in electric vehicle sales following record third-quarter deliveries. The Cybertruck, in particular, has been struggling with sales, despite recent discounts offered on inventory vehicles.

According to a U.S. recall filing, a total of 46,096 Cybertrucks were manufactured between the model’s debut in November 2023 and early 2025.
