Ola Denies Technology Theft Allegations, Claims Foreign Rival Conspiracy

Ola Denies Technology Theft Claims, Alleges Foreign Rival Conspiracy

Ola Electric has strongly denied allegations of technology theft, calling them a “direct assault on homegrown innovation by a nervous foreign competitor.” The Indian EV giant dismissed reports about acquiring battery secrets from a former LG Energy Solution executive as “misleading and completely baseless.”

Key Takeaways

  • Ola Electric denies all technology theft allegations
  • Calls claims a strategic move by foreign rival fearing market loss
  • Highlights 720 patent filings and Rs 2,500 crore Gigafactory investment
  • Claims its 4680 ‘Bharat Cell’ uses superior technology to pouch cells

The Allegations and Ola’s Response

Ola broke its silence on Sunday, stating the allegations emerged from a South Korean publication report. The company suggested a foreign competitor launched these claims as Ola’s domestically developed battery cell entered commercial production.

“The fear of losing market opportunities, including a significant customer in Ola Electric, is prompting the foreign rival to attack an indigenous battery innovation,” the company stated.

Technical Superiority Claims

Ola clarified its flagship 4680 ‘Bharat Cell’ uses fundamentally different technology. The company described it as utilizing advanced dry electrode technology in cylindrical form, which they claim surpasses the pouch cell technology mentioned in media reports.

Ola labeled pouch cell technology as “old and dated,” asserting it’s not even an area of research or commercial interest for them.

Substantial R&D Investment

To support its independent innovation claims, Ola highlighted:

  • 720 patent filings with 124 already granted
  • Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru with 250+ specialists
  • India’s first operational Gigafactory with Rs 2,500 crore investment

The company positioned itself as championing national technological ambition, reaffirming commitment to intellectual property and technological self-reliance. Ola believes it’s leading India’s push toward global clean energy leadership.
