Perplexity AI Launches Comet Browser for Android with Early Access

Key Takeaways

  • Perplexity AI has started rolling out early invites for its Comet browser on Android
  • Pro users and active Perplexity Android app users will get priority access
  • The AI browser aims to challenge Chrome’s dominance in the mobile market
  • Comet can automate tasks like summarizing content, booking meetings, and sending emails
  • Security researchers have identified prompt injection vulnerabilities in agentic AI browsers

Perplexity AI has begun sending early access invites for its Comet browser on Android devices, marking its expansion into the mobile browser market. Founder Aravind Srinivas confirmed that paying subscribers and regular users of the Perplexity Android app will receive priority access to the AI-powered browser.

How to Get Early Access

Interested users can register for the Comet browser waitlist through the Google Play Store or the official Comet browser website. In a post on X, Srinivas emphasized that “Comet Android early invites are going out. If you want to maximize your chances for early access and shaping how the future of mobile browsing looks like—it all comes down to your Perplexity Android usage and Pro/Max user status!”

The company had previously launched Comet for Windows and Mac earlier this year before making it generally available.

Challenging Chrome’s Mobile Dominance

Perplexity aims to disrupt Google Chrome’s stronghold in the Android browser market, where Chrome currently commands a 60.45% market share according to SimilarWeb data. Safari follows with 31.22%, while Samsung Internet holds 4.98%.

This move represents Perplexity’s broader strategy to challenge Google across multiple segments using artificial intelligence. The company already competes with Google Search through its AI-powered search assistant, and now targets browser market share with Comet’s advanced capabilities.

What Comet Browser Can Do

Comet functions as an “agentic AI browser” that automates various tasks for users, including:

  • Content summarization
  • Meeting scheduling and email management
  • Multi-step workflow automation
  • Product comparisons and form filling
  • Hotel bookings and travel arrangements

Security Concerns with AI Browsers

While Perplexity promotes Comet’s benefits, security researchers from Brave browser have identified systematic vulnerabilities in agentic AI browsers. These systems are susceptible to prompt injection attacks, where hackers can embed invisible commands on webpages that trick AI agents into performing unauthorized actions.

Such attacks could potentially lead to sensitive data exposure, unauthorized email sending, or even bank account access. Perplexity’s security team acknowledged these risks last month, stating that conventional security testing methods are insufficient and that the problem “demands rethinking security from the ground up.”
