Peloton Recalls 878K Exercise Bikes Over Seat Post Safety Hazard

Key Takeaways

  • Peloton recalls 878,000 Bike+ units due to seat post breakage risks
  • Model PL02 bikes sold between 2020-2025 affected across US and Canada
  • Three injury reports confirmed; free seat post replacements offered
  • Check serial numbers starting with “T” to determine if your bike is included

Peloton has issued a major safety recall affecting nearly 878,000 of its Bike+ exercise equipment after discovering seat posts can break during use, creating fall hazards for riders. The recall specifically targets Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with model number PL02.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada jointly announced the recall following three confirmed reports of seat post failures in the United States, two of which resulted in injuries from falls. No incidents have been reported in Canada to date.

Which Bikes Are Affected?

The recall impacts approximately 833,000 units in the United States and 44,800 in Canada. Affected Bike+ models have serial numbers beginning with the letter “T” and were manufactured between December 2019 and July 2022.

These bikes were sold through Peloton stores, Dick’s Sporting Goods locations, and online retailers including Amazon and eBay from 2020 through April 2025, typically priced around $2,495.

What Should Owners Do?

Safety regulators and Peloton strongly urge affected bike owners to immediately stop using the equipment and contact the company for a free seat post replacement.

“The integrity of our products and our Members’ well-being are our top priorities,” a Peloton spokesperson stated, confirming the company will provide redesigned seat posts to all impacted Bike+ users.

Peloton’s website contains detailed information to help owners determine if their bike is included in the recall, along with installation instructions for the replacement seat post.

Previous Recall Context

This marks Peloton’s second major seat post recall in recent years. The company previously recalled 2 million original Bikes (model PL01) in 2023 following similar but more numerous reports of breaking seat posts and related injuries.

According to Peloton’s spokesperson, Bike+ products manufactured since mid-2023 already incorporate the redesigned seat post and are not affected by this recall.
