King Charles Strips Prince Andrew of Royal Titles Over Epstein Scandal

King Charles Formally Removes Prince Andrew’s Royal Titles

King Charles III has formally stripped his brother, Prince Andrew, of all his royal titles and styles. This decisive action marks the end of a major controversy for the British monarchy.

Key Takeaways

  • Prince Andrew loses all royal titles, including His Royal Highness and Duke of York.
  • The move follows renewed scrutiny of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Andrew must vacate his Windsor home and relocate to a smaller property.
  • US lawmakers are now seeking his testimony in the Epstein investigation.

Official Decree and Title Removal

Through a formal Letters Patent, King Charles declared that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor will no longer hold the title of Prince or the style ‘Royal Highness’. An official announcement in The Gazette confirmed the revocation, which also includes his Duke of York title.

Epstein Scandal Fallout

The decision follows King Charles’s October 30 announcement to remove Andrew’s titles and evict him from Royal Lodge. This action came amid renewed public anger over Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims who died earlier this year, had accused Andrew of sexual abuse when she was a teenager. Andrew has repeatedly denied these allegations. Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 in what officials ruled a suicide.

Giuffre’s family has welcomed the King’s decision.

Relocation and Royal Censure

Andrew, 65, must now vacate his 30-room Windsor residence, his home for over two decades. He will relocate to a smaller property on the King’s Sandringham Estate, with the move reportedly funded by the monarch.

This represents the most severe public censure faced by Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, whose royal duties have been suspended since 2019.

US Congressional Investigation

In a new development, members of a US congressional committee investigating Epstein’s sex-trafficking network have written to Andrew seeking his cooperation.

“Well-documented allegations against you, along with your long-standing friendship with Mr. Epstein, indicate that you may possess knowledge of his activities relevant to our investigation,” the lawmakers stated.

The committee has requested a response by November 20, though Andrew faces no legal obligation to comply.
