Airtel Launches Dual-Mode 5G Network for Faster Internet Speeds

Airtel Launches Advanced Dual-Mode 5G Network Across India

Airtel has announced the rollout of an advanced dual-mode 5G network, promising internet speeds up to twice as fast for its users nationwide. This new service will provide access to both Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) 5G architectures.

Key Takeaways

  • Airtel’s dual-mode 5G offers both NSA and SA network access
  • Initial rollout in 13 regions with nationwide expansion planned
  • AirFiber users to experience enhanced connectivity
  • Potential price hikes for recharge plans expected in December

Dual-Mode 5G Service Expansion

During a recent earnings call, Airtel revealed plans for its dual-mode 5G network that will soon cover every part of the country. Managing Director Gopal Vittal highlighted that customers using Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) will be migrated to this improved service, significantly boosting connectivity for AirFiber users.

The company is currently launching the service in 13 regions across India with plans for rapid expansion to additional areas.

5G Evolution in India

Airtel began its 5G journey in 2022 by building upon its existing 4G infrastructure through NSA technology. The current expansion introduces Standalone (SA) 5G that operates independently from 4G networks.

Meanwhile, competitor Reliance Jio has deployed its own SA 5G network across India, creating a competitive landscape that promises users more reliable internet speeds and better overall connections.

Potential Price Increases

Separately, Airtel may increase recharge plan prices as early as December. Vodafone-Idea is also reportedly considering similar price hikes, according to industry reports emphasizing the need to boost Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Telecom companies last implemented price increases in July last year, when plans across private operators rose by 20-25 percent. Neither company has officially confirmed the upcoming price adjustments.
