India and New Zealand Accelerate Free Trade Agreement Negotiations

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has arrived in New Zealand for crucial talks to advance the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA). During his official visit starting November 5, Goyal was warmly welcomed by New Zealand’s Trade and Investment Minister Todd McClay.

In a social media statement, Minister Goyal expressed his enthusiasm for the negotiations, stating: “Delighted to be in New Zealand to review the progress of the ongoing FTA negotiations. Grateful to my good friend and counterpart, Todd McClay, for the warm welcome.”

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The visit underscores both nations’ commitment to building a comprehensive economic partnership. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry emphasized that the discussions aim to create new growth opportunities for businesses in both countries.

Minister Goyal’s itinerary includes significant engagements with New Zealand’s business community and the Indian diaspora. A highlight will be the New Zealand-India Business Forum in Auckland, followed by community interactions.

Fireside Chat on Trade Cooperation

A key event during the visit will be a Fireside Chat between Ministers Goyal and McClay, moderated by Simon Bridges, CEO of the Auckland Business Chamber. The dialogue will focus on advancing trade cooperation, identifying new economic convergence areas, and enhancing collaboration in innovation and sustainable growth.

The ongoing negotiations represent a significant step in deepening the economic relationship between India and New Zealand, with both sides working toward a mutually beneficial agreement that could transform bilateral trade dynamics.
