Zepto Removes All Fees: Beats Blinkit, Instamart on Pricing

Key Takeaways

  • Zepto eliminates all handling, surge, and small cart fees permanently
  • Free delivery on orders above ₹99, only ₹30 delivery fee below ₹99
  • Zepto becomes the only major quick commerce platform with zero platform fees
  • Real-world comparison shows Zepto offers significant cost savings

Quick commerce platform Zepto has completely removed handling fees, surge charges, and small cart fees across all orders, positioning itself as the most affordable option in India’s competitive instant delivery market.

All New Zepto Experience: Zero Fee Structure

Under its “All New Zepto Experience” campaign, Zepto customers now pay zero handling fees and zero rain or surge fees on all orders. The platform has also reduced its minimum order value to ₹99 for free delivery.

This makes Zepto the only mainstream quick commerce platform currently charging zero handling and platform fees. In contrast, competitors Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit charge ₹9.8 and ₹4 as handling fees respectively.

Fee Comparison: Blinkit vs Instamart vs Zepto

For orders below ₹99, the fee differences are substantial:

  • Zepto: Only ₹30 delivery fee, no other charges
  • Blinkit: ₹30 delivery + ₹20 small cart fee + ₹4 handling fee = ₹54 extra
  • Instamart: ₹30 delivery + ₹15 small cart fee + ₹9.8 handling fee + 18% GST = significantly higher

While Swiggy has introduced a ‘No Fee November’ campaign for Instamart, it only applies to orders above ₹299 – a stark contrast to Zepto’s all-order policy.

Real Price Comparison: 500ml Milk

A Livemint analysis revealed significant cost differences for a ₹29 milk pouch:

  • Blinkit: ₹88 total
  • Instamart: ₹94 total
  • Zepto: ₹59 total (lowest)

Why Zepto is Eliminating Fees

Zepto’s aggressive pricing strategy comes weeks after the company raised $450 million in funding, valuing the quick commerce platform at $7 billion. The funding round included investors such as California Public Employees’ Retirement System, General Catalyst, Goodwater Capital, and Lightspeed.

The fee elimination represents Zepto’s competitive push to capture market share in India’s rapidly growing quick commerce sector, where pricing has become a key differentiator for consumers.
