US Denies Visa to Indian Techie Earning ₹1 Crore in Under 60 Seconds

US Denies B1/B2 Visa to Indian Techie in Under a Minute

A senior Indian tech professional earning nearly ₹1 crore annually was denied a US B1/B2 visa in less than 60 seconds at the US Embassy in New Delhi, abruptly canceling his plans to attend a major industry conference.

Key Takeaways

  • Senior tech lead with 11-year stable career rejected in under a minute.
  • Visa was for Kubecon + CloudNative Con 2025 in Atlanta.
  • Applicant had strong ties to India: high salary, family, property.

The Interview Experience

The cloud native specialist shared his experience on Reddit, stating: “I had my B1/B2 visa interview at the US Embassy today in Delhi, and I was rejected in less than a minute after just three questions. I’m trying to understand what went wrong and how I can improve for next time.”

According to Hindustan Times, the visa officer asked three key questions:

  • Purpose of the US visit
  • Previous international travel history
  • Whether he had relatives or contacts in the US

Professional Background and Travel Plans

The applicant had visited Lithuania, Maldives, and Indonesia previously. His planned trip to attend Kubecon + CloudNative Con 2025 was crucial for his professional development.

“I am a senior tech lead at a company and my day-to-day work is on Cloud Native technologies. It is important that I attend this conference to stay up to date on the latest events or movements in this field,” he explained.

He had already booked flights, accommodation, and scheduled his entire event itinerary. The conference lacked live-streaming options, making physical attendance necessary.

Strong Ties to India

The rejection surprised him given his strong credentials and roots in India. “I’m employed in India with a stable job for the last 11 years. I make close to a crore annually and have an eight-month-old daughter, so I had very strong motivations to come back to India,” he stated, highlighting his compelling reasons to return.
