Reliance and Meta Launch AI Joint Venture with ₹855 Crore Investment
Reliance Industries and Meta have formed a joint venture called Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL) to build enterprise AI solutions for Indian and global markets. The partnership involves an initial investment of ₹855 crore and combines Reliance’s industry reach with Meta’s technological expertise.
Key Details of the REIL Joint Venture
- Initial Investment: ₹855 crore committed by both companies
- Ownership Structure: Reliance Intelligence holds 70% stake with ₹2 crore contribution, Meta’s Facebook Overseas holds 30%
- Business Focus: Developing, marketing, and distributing scalable enterprise AI services
- Regulatory Status: No government approvals required for incorporation
According to a BSE filing, “REIL will be engaged, inter alia, in developing, marketing and distributing enterprise AI services. No governmental or regulatory approvals were required for incorporation of REIL.”
Corporate Structure and Clarifications
Reliance Industries has clarified that this transaction does not qualify as a related party transaction. The company stated that neither its promoters nor any group companies have any direct or indirect interest in the deal.
As reported by Times of India, the company confirmed: “The transaction does not fall within related party transaction and none of the Company’s promoter/promoter group/ group companies have any interest in the above transaction.”
Leadership Vision and Background
The strategic collaboration was first announced by Mukesh Ambani during Reliance’s 48th annual general meeting in August. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed shareholders at the same event, emphasizing the transformative potential of their partnership.
“We believe this technology has the potential to bring a new era of personal empowerment, giving people greater agency to improve the world in all the directions they choose,” Zuckerberg stated.
This marks the latest chapter in the Reliance-Meta partnership, building on Meta’s USD 5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms in 2020 that initially strengthened their business relationship.
