Foxconn Denies Tamil Nadu’s Rs 15,000 Crore Investment Claim

Foxconn Denies Tamil Nadu’s Major Investment Announcement

Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn has directly contradicted Tamil Nadu’s claim of securing a massive Rs 15,000 crore investment and 14,000 high-value engineering jobs, stating no new investment plans were discussed during recent meetings with state officials.

Key Takeaways

  • Foxconn explicitly denies discussing new investments with Tamil Nadu government
  • Minister Rajaa announced Rs 15,000 crore investment creating 14,000 jobs
  • Contradiction creates confusion over Tamil Nadu’s industrial development claims

The Contradictory Claims

Tamil Nadu State Industries Minister Rajaa took to social media platform X to announce what he called the “largest ever engineering commitment for Tamil Nadu,” stating Foxconn had committed Rs 15,000 crore in investments and 14,000 high-value jobs, urging engineers to “get ready.”

However, Foxconn issued a clear statement refuting these claims: “Foxconn’s newly appointed India Representative, Robert Wu, had an exchange with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office and his team. During the meeting, no new investments were discussed.”

Minister Stands Firm Despite Denial

Despite Foxconn’s official clarification, Minister Rajaa reiterated his claim, stating “It is 100 per cent true” in response to PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss calling the news “false.”

The minister accused critics of “playing politics with employment opportunities due to political prejudice” and emphasized the difficulty of securing investments in today’s global political climate. He described the job opportunities as being “secured after nearly a year of struggle.”

The conflicting statements leave the status of this potential investment in uncertainty, raising questions about Tamil Nadu’s industrial development announcements.
