Qatari Diplomats Killed in Crash Ahead of Gaza Ceasefire Summit

Three Qatari Diplomats Killed En Route to Gaza Ceasefire Summit

Three Qatari diplomats were killed in a car crash on Saturday while traveling to Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh for a major summit on the Gaza ceasefire. Two other diplomats sustained injuries in the accident.

Key Details of the Incident

  • The fatal crash occurred approximately 50 kilometers from the Red Sea resort.
  • The vehicle carrying the Qatari protocol team overturned en route.
  • The diplomats were part of advance preparations for the high-level international gathering.

Connection to Gaza Peace Efforts

The officials, speaking anonymously, confirmed the team was traveling ahead of the summit celebrating the recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Qatar played a central mediation role alongside Egypt and the United States, with Turkey joining negotiations earlier this month.

Summit Leadership and Attendance

According to an Egyptian presidency statement, the Sharm el-Sheikh summit will be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and US President Donald Trump. The event will host more than two dozen world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
