Rohit Sharma flaunts his new Tesla, viral video grabs Elon Musk’s attention

Batting superstar Rohit Sharma turned heads when he arrived at an award show in Mumbai behind the wheel of his brand-new Tesla Model Y, instantly setting social media abuzz among fans and car enthusiasts.

A video of Rohit driving the sleek electric SUV quickly went viral, with one user posting, “This is why Tesla doesn’t need to advertise-Rohit Sharma, with 45 million Instagram followers, just bought a new Tesla Model Y.”

The post soon caught the eye of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who retweeted it, sending the internet into a frenzy. Musk’s reaction amplified the buzz around Rohit’s latest purchase, with many fans hailing it as the perfect example of “free advertising,” thanks to the Indian cricket captain’s massive influence and star power.

Adding to the buzz, the cricketer’s Tesla features a unique number plate, which has caught the attention of social media users and automobile aficionados. The number plate feature 3015, which, according to social media users, is a nod to the birthdates of his children – Samaira and Ahaan.

Rohit made his first public appearance after he was removed as ODI captain at CEAT Cricket Awards in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The Model Y, Tesla’s electric SUV, is known for its futuristic design, impressive performance, and eco-friendly technology. Rohit’s choice of car aligns with his modern, stylish image off the cricket field.

Rohit Sharma has long been known for his love of cars, and the Tesla is the latest addition to an impressive collection. Over the years, he has been spotted behind the wheels of several luxury and high-performance vehicles. His garage reportedly includes models such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi Q7, and even the iconic Range Rover.

Rohit often drove his blue Lamoborghini, sporting the registration number 264 — a tribute to his world record ODI score. During the IPL, Rohit was often spotted driving his Lamborghini on the streets of Mumbai. However,

Rohit’s Lamborghini, sporting the registration number ‘264’, has long held sentimental value — a tribute to his world-record 264-run innings in ODIs. However, Rohit gave away the luxury SUV, valued at nearly Rs 4 crore in the Indian market, to a cricket contest winner earlier this year.

At the start of IPL 2025, Rohit had humorously promised to give away the car in a Dream11 ad campaign that quickly went viral. In the two-part advertisement, Rohit was first seen emotionally announcing the giveaway, and later hilariously watching a fan drive off in his Urus — forcing the Indian captain to hail an auto-rickshaw home. While fans initially wondered whether the giveaway would feature the exact car or a new one, the visuals from Monday confirmed that Rohit indeed kept his word.

Rohit will be seen in action in the upcoming tour of Australia where India will play three ODIs from October 19 to 25. Rohit and Virat Kohli have been picked as specialist batters in the team, which will be led by Shubman Gill. The Australia tour will be Rohit and Virat’s first international appearance since the Champions Trophy triumph in March.
