The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has confirmed that Class 12 results for 2026 are likely to be declared in the third week of May, offering much-needed clarity to lakhs of students awaiting their scores.
It has firmly rejected recent media reports alleging glitches and delays in the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets under its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
Responding to the claims, Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said the reports are “far away from facts” and dismissed concerns around the newly introduced digital evaluation process.
“I refute each and every thing which has been stated in some media news portal. These are false and everything is perfectly fine,” he said as reported by PTI.
‘EVALUATION IS GOING VERY PERFECTLY’
CBSE officials have emphasised that the evaluation process is running smoothly and even more efficiently than previous methods. Bhardwaj highlighted the board’s confidence in the system, stating, “My evaluation is going very perfectly, better than the previous evaluation.”
The board has rolled out the On-Screen Marking system fully for the first time in 2026 for Class 12 answer sheets, aiming to improve transparency, speed, and accuracy in assessment.
“We are so proud that we have started this process,” Bhardwaj added, underlining the board’s commitment to modernising examination systems.
TEACHERS BACK THE NEW SYSTEM
Interestingly, CBSE has also shared positive feedback from evaluators involved in the process. According to Bhardwaj, teachers are expressing satisfaction with the digital system.
“They are sending me selfies, photographs and messages thanking us, saying they are fortunate to work with this system,” he said. He also noted that even teachers not currently assigned evaluation duties have shown interest in participating.
RESULTS TIMELINE: WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW
Reassuring students, the board confirmed that the evaluation process is progressing “as per schedule”. Bhardwaj reiterated that Class 12 results will be declared in the third week of May, as previously indicated.
“The results will be declared when they are prepared. People should wait till then,” he said.
The Class 12 board examinations began on February 17 this year, with lakhs of students appearing across India and abroad.
A SHIFT TOWARDS DIGITAL EVALUATION
CBSE had earlier announced the adoption of the OSM system through a circular issued on February 9 to affiliated schools. The move is aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring greater transparency in the marking process.
With nearly 46 lakh students appearing for Class 10 and 12 examinations annually across India and 26 countries, the board’s shift to digital evaluation marks a significant step in reforming large-scale assessments.
