Apple’s new CEO John Ternus, is assuming charge on September 1 and in less than 2 weeks after assuming charge, he will launch its much-awaited foldable iPhone alongside iPhone 18 Pro models and other products. The foldable iPhone will be the company’s biggest product in a decade. However, a report says that the outgoing CEO, Tim Cook, is leaving a “strong pipeline” of devices that will be launched in the next few years by John Ternus. Bloomberg, in its report, says that the product line-up will be bigger than what outgoing CEO Tim Cook got when he took over in 2011 from Steve Jobs.
After assuming charge, Steve Jobs launched the then-novel Siri voice assistant, and during his first full year at the helm, he launched the iPhone 5, iPad Mini, thinner iMacs, and new iPods, as well as the first iPad and MacBook Pro models with Retina displays. The company also entered three major categories: the Apple Watch in 2015, AirPods in 2016, and the Vision Pro in 2024.
Bloomberg says Ternus could quickly eclipse his predecessor in new product launches. In fact, during a recent town hall, Ternus told employees Apple is about to “change the world” and described the company’s pipeline as the most exciting of his career.
Here is a list of products that Apple could launch during John Ternus’s tenure as CEO.
New Macs, iPads and AR glasses in the works
Bloomberg says Apple is working on a host of new Macs and iPads, and some of these devices are expected to arrive soon.
Touchscreen Macs: The company is planning to bring revamped MacBooks with touchscreens at the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
Foldable iPad: A 20-inch foldable iPad has been a priority of incoming Apple CEO Ternus, but the report, based on people familiar with the matter, suggests that the product might not see the light of day.
Augmented reality glasses: Apple launched its Vision Pro in 2024 but did not upgrade it thereafter. Now, the company is trying something new and is developing AR glasses with digital information overlays over real-world views. The Bloomberg report suggests that the company wants to launch these between 2028 and 2030.
AI-powered camera wearables in development
The company is also developing a host of new products in the AI-powered camera wearable category, which are expected to launch during the tenure of John Ternus.
Smart glasses: These smart glasses will use cameras to capture media and collect data for AI use. They will compete with Meta Ray-Ban glasses and will arrive with features like the ability to play music, trigger Siri, and take phone calls.
AI AirPods: These AI AirPods will come with cameras to capture images and provide context about surroundings, along with visual-based reminders and directions to users.
Pendant: Similar to the Humane AI Pin, this device will feature a computer-vision camera system that can capture data and feed it into an iPhone’s AI and Siri features. Bloomberg says the device can be worn as a necklace or as a pin on clothes.
Apple’s push into AI-powered smart home devices
Apart from these products, Bloomberg says Apple is also working on AI-powered smart home devices.
Smart home hub: This device will come with a new operating system built around Siri for controlling the home and will include features like FaceTime. It will also get a facial recognition system to personalise the experience.
Tabletop robot: This device will essentially be a smart home hub attached to a robotic limb that can move the screen around for better video conferencing.
Security device: Apple is expected to bring a privacy-focused home security system with sensors and cameras to compete with Google Nest and Ring.
Readers are advised to take this list with a pinch of salt, as Apple has not said anything about these products, and they might also get cancelled.
