The wait is finally coming to an end for lakhs of students across West Bengal. In a major announcement, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has confirmed the release date of the Madhyamik Result 2026.
Students who appeared for the Class 10 board examinations will be able to check their scores online on May 8, 2026.
With nearly 10 lakh candidates awaiting their marks this year, excitement and curiosity are at an all-time high.
WHY WAS THERE CURIOSITY AROUND THE RESULT DATE THIS YEAR?
This year’s result schedule gained extra attention because of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections. The elections are set to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, while vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
With these dates approaching, many were speculating whether the result declaration could be delayed. The board’s latest confirmation has now ended all uncertainty.
The WBBSE Class 10 board examinations were held from February 2 to February 12, 2026. The exams were conducted smoothly at thousands of centres, enabling students from across the state to appear without any disruption.
HOW MANY STUDENTS APPEARED FOR THE MADHYAMIK EXAM THIS YEAR?
A total of 9,71,340 candidates registered and appeared for the 2026 Madhyamik examination.
The participation breakdown is as follows:
- 4,26,733 boys
- 5,44,606 girls
- 1 transgender candidate
These figures highlight the scale and significance of the examination in West Bengal.
WHAT WERE LAST YEAR’S RESULT HIGHLIGHTS?
Last year, the Madhyamik results were declared on May 2. The overall pass percentage stood at 86.56 percent, while a total of 9,84,753 students appeared for the examination across 2,683 exam centres.
Among subject-wise top AA grade scorers, Geography ranked first with 42,526 students, followed by Life Science and History.
The board also reported that there were no incomplete or withheld results, only 20 cancelled results, and 88 students were exonerated after review.
HOW CAN STUDENTS CHECK THEIR RESULTS ONLINE?
After the results are announced, students can check their scores by visiting wbbse.wb.gov.in, clicking on the Madhyamik Result 2026 link, entering their roll number and required credentials, and submitting the details. They should then download and save the provisional mark sheet for future reference.
Once the results are declared, students can begin the next stage of their academic journey by applying for Class 11 admissions and choosing their preferred stream.
