North India heat to spike on Sunday, rain to hit eastern and southern states

Several regions in India are currently experiencing an unusually early onset of intense heat, with temperatures reaching levels significantly higher than what is typically expected for this time of year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings as mercury levels continue to rise, particularly in the northern and southern parts of the country.

WILL THE INTENSE HEAT CONTINUE ACROSS NORTHWEST INDIA?

The heatwave is notably severe in the Western Himalayan region. In Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, daytime temperatures are likely to remain between eight and 12 degrees Celsius above the normal range for the next four days.

Other plains in Northwest India are also seeing a sharp spike, with temperatures hovering six to eight degrees Celsius above average. However, some relief is expected after March 9, when a fresh Western Disturbance might cause a dip of five to seven degrees Celsius.

WHICH REGIONS ARE FACING SEVERE HEATWAVE WARNINGS?

Isolated pockets in Himachal Pradesh and Vidarbha are under heatwave warnings for March 8. Similar conditions are prevailing in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and north Tamil Nadu.

While the highest maximum temperature recently hit 40.8 degrees Celsius in Amravati, Maharashtra, many areas in Rajasthan and Telangana are consistently recording temperatures between 37 and 41 degrees Celsius.

IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF RAIN TOMORROW?

While much of the country remains dry, tomorrow might bring isolated light rainfall to parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, along with Odisha and Jharkhand, may also witness scattered rainfall. In the south, Kerala, Mahe, and coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to see isolated rainfall on March 8.

HOW WILL THE WEATHER BE IN DELHI?

The capital is set for a mainly clear sky tomorrow. Residents should prepare for warm weather, as maximum temperatures are expected to be between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, while minimums will stay around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
