IIT(ISM) scientist features in Royal Society of Chemistry’s women’s day collection

An assistant professor of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, has been featured by the Royal Society of Chemistry in its International Women’s Day 2026 special collection, which highlights impactful research conducted by women scientists across the world and published during 2025.

Madhulika Gupta, 36, assistant professor in the department of chemistry and chemical biology, was recognised for her research paper on the design and experimental validation of high-entropy perovskite oxide materials for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathodes, which was published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry in 2025.

These materials are considered crucial for improving the efficiency and sustainability of next-generation energy technology.

The study combines computational modelling with laboratory experiments to develop advanced materials capable of enhancing fuel cell performance.

Expressing happiness over the recognition, Gupta said she felt honoured to be included in the special collection that highlights impactful research led by women scientists worldwide. She noted that such recognition encourages researchers to continue contributing to innovative solutions in materials science and sustainable energy.

Gupta’s research interests broadly include computational chemistry, biomolecular recognition, protein-protein interactions, and computer-aided drug discovery. Her work involves advanced computational simulations aimed at understanding biomolecular structures and catalytic processes, which can contribute to both energy and biomedical research.

Earlier, she was also nominated by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation under the Union ministry of science and technology as one of 20 women scientists representing India at the Asean-India Women Scientists Conclave 2024 held in Singapore.

Officials of IIT (ISM) said the recognition reflects the growing global impact of research carried out at the institute and underscores the significant contributions of women scientists in advancing materials science and energy research.
