IPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island leak hints at big changes from Apple, here is all you need to know

As Apple gets ready to unveil its fresh batch of iPhones, there are reports coming in that suggest the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models could be in for a big change, vis–vis the Dynamic Island. It is the pill-shape notch you see on the front of recent iPhones. Rumour has it that this Dynamic Island may get smaller in the next-generation Pro iPhones which means there may be some under-the-hood structural changes as well.

Early Apple, which claims to be a tipster for Apple and other tech on X, has shared CAD (short for computer aided design) renders of the alleged iPhone 18 Pro seemingly confirming the “smaller dynamic island of the iPhone 18 Pro.” India Today Tech cannot guarantee the authenticity of the said render, but it does add to ongoing speculations about a potential redesign that may be coming to future iPhones.

Reports have previously hinted that Apple may be exploring the idea of placing Face ID sensors under the display. The new leak corroborates those rumours. The back panel design may remain largely unchanged though minor tweaks to the glass back and frame finish cannot be ruled out. Apple is also said to be experimenting with new Pro colour options, including burgundy and coffee brown.

iPhone 18 series rumoured hardware

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to use Apple’s new A20 Pro chip. This processor is expected to be built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. Google is also reported to use the same manufacturing node to build the Tensor G6.

Apple is reportedly exploring a more integrated chip design, where the RAM is packaged alongside the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. This approach could lead to faster data handling, better energy efficiency, and improved heat management.

Early leaks indicate this change may deliver around a 15 per cent boost in performance and up to 30 per cent gains in power efficiency over the previous generation. Such improvements are also expected to enhance on-device AI features, including Apple Intelligence.

iPhone 18 series rumoured camera upgrades

If the latest rumours hold true, Apple’s camera game could look very different this year. One of the more intriguing whispers points to a variable aperture mechanism built into at least one rear camera — something that would let the lens breathe more or less light depending on the situation. Alongside this, a next-generation three-layer stacked sensor is also reportedly in the works, with Samsung said to be a potential supplier. The upgrade could translate into quicker shot processing, reduced image noise, and richer dynamic range. Broader apertures across the main and telephoto cameras are expected as well.

iPhone 18 series battery and display rumour roundup

The iPhone 18 Pro Max could be making a bold trade-off this year — a bulkier build in exchange for significantly longer battery life. According to various reports, Apple may increase the device’s thickness to accommodate a larger cell, with the battery rumored to land at 5,100mAh, one of the largest ever fitted into an iPhone. The added capacity, however, could push the weight north of 240 grams, which would make it the heaviest iPhone Apple has ever shipped. Whether that is a dealbreaker will depend on the user — those who prioritize all-day endurance over a slim profile may find the compromise well worth it.

Screen sizes, on the other hand, appear to be staying put. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to carry forward its 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max is anticipated to stick with its expansive 6.9-inch panel.
