Google has just dropped Nano Banana 2, the latest version of its AI image generation model. According to the company, the new generation image tool is both better and faster than the previous iteration, combining the advanced intelligence of its Pro line with the speed of Gemini Flash. Nano Banana 2 brings upgrades such as faster image creation, improved text rendering, stronger subject consistency and ready-to-use results. It’s also available in more countries and languages.
Google first launched its image generation tool last year with Nano Banana, which quickly became an instant hit for its ability to generate realistic and creative images within seconds. It was later followed by Nano Banana Pro, which focused on deeper reasoning and studio-level creative control for more demanding tasks. Now, with Nano Banana 2, Google says it is bringing “Pro capabilities with lightning-fast speed,” offering high-fidelity images along with rapid generation.

Nano Banana 2 features
At the core of Nano Banana 2 is Gemini Flash, which, according to Google, enables faster edits and quicker iterations without significantly compromising on quality.
Advanced world knowledge: One of the biggest upgrades in Nano Banana 2 is what Google calls “advanced world knowledge”. The Nano Banana 2 model taps into Gemini’s real-world knowledge base and integrates real-time information and imagery from web search. This allows it to generate more accurate representations of specific subjects and create structured visuals such as infographics, diagrams and data visualisations with better contextual understanding.
Improved text handling: Google has also improved the text generation with Nano Banana 2. The model offers precise text rendering, allowing users to generate clear, legible text directly within images. It can also translate and localise text inside images, helping creators adapt visuals for different languages and global audiences.
High fidelity and consistency: Google says Nano Banana 2 can keep up to five characters and 14 different objects looking the same across multiple images. In simple terms, if you’re creating a story or a series of visuals, the characters won’t suddenly change their face, clothes or style from one image to the next.
The model is also said to understand detailed instructions better, meaning if you give it a complex prompt, it’s more likely to create exactly what you described without missing important details.
Improved lighting and detail: On the visual front, Nano Banana 2 will deliver better lighting, richer textures and sharper details while maintaining the fast generation speed associated with Flash. Users can also adjust the picture size and quality from small (512 pixels) up to very high (4K), so the Nano Banana 2 can be users for all kinds of uses, like social media, presentations, and marketing materials.
Transparency and verification: As for transparency, Google is emphasising that Nano Banana 2 integrates SynthID technology along with interoperable C2PA Content Credentials. This, according to the company, will help users understand whether and how AI was involved in generating an image. The company says its verification tools have already seen significant usage within the Gemini app.
Nano Banana 2 availability
Nano Banana 2 is rolling out across several Google products. It is replacing the earlier image models in the Gemini app across the Fast, Thinking and Pro modes. However, Nano Banana Pro will still be available for users who need higher factual accuracy for more specialised tasks.
Nano Banana 2 is also available in Search through AI Mode and Lens, and can be accessed via the Google app as well as on mobile and desktop browsers. Google says it is expanding to 141 additional countries and territories, along with support for eight more languages.
For developers and businesses, Nano Banana 2 is available in preview through AI Studio and the Gemini API, as well as through Vertex AI on Google Cloud. It has also become the default image generation model in Flow and is integrated into Google Ads, where it helps create suggestions while building campaigns.
