Foldable devices offer the convenience of a smartphone while also providing a larger, tablet-like experience when unfolded. The category is steadily gaining traction, with major tech giants continuously experimenting in this space. From Apple to Google, several brands are expected to introduce new foldables in the market. Samsung’s next-generation foldables — Galaxy Z Fold 8 — have also been the subject of speculation for quite some time, and now, it has reportedly been spotted along with a new variant called the “Wide Fold” within the company’s own One UI 9 software.
According to Android Authority, the Wide Fold appears to be a different take on the usual Fold design. Based on the images, it may have a wider, shorter (more “squat”) outer display and a chunky camera bump similar to recent Galaxy S-series phones. This suggests Samsung could be experimenting with a new form factor to improve usability, especially when the phone is folded.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 expected specs and features
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 could feature a “crease-free” display — meaning the fold line may be barely noticeable, without the usual dip or bump. Samsung is reportedly also working on a new hinge mechanism, which could help make the device around 0.5mm thinner when folded.
On the performance side, the foldable is rumoured to be powered by Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2600 chipset, in line with the brand’s strategy of using in-house processors for its clamshell foldables while reserving Qualcomm chips for its Galaxy S series. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also tipped to be lighter than its predecessor, potentially weighing around 180g compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s 188g.
Battery-wise, the device is expected to stick with the same 4,300mAh unit and 25W charging support, indicating no major upgrades in this area. Similarly, most of the hardware is likely to remain unchanged, including the camera setup, which is expected to feature a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel front camera. Other elements like the vibration motor, speakers, and outer display are also tipped to see little to no changes.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide expected specs
On the other hand, the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to introduce a noticeably different design compared to Samsung’s standard book-style foldables. As the name suggests, the device is tipped to feature a wider form factor, with leaked CAD renders indicating a shorter and broader outer display, likely around 5.4 inches. This marks a shift from the taller cover screens seen on previous models. On the inside, the foldable display is expected to measure around 7.6 inches, slightly smaller than the typical 8-inch panels, but with a wider aspect ratio aimed at improving video playback and app usability.
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may come with a dual rear camera setup instead of the usual triple-camera system found on earlier Fold devices. While exact sensor details are not yet confirmed, this change could help differentiate the model and potentially lower its price. Other specifications, including chipset, battery, and charging details, remain under wraps for now.
