Samsung has been rolling out the One UI 8.5 update on most Samsung devices, but we have already started getting leaks and hands-on for the upcoming version, One UI 9. Samsung Internet, rebranded
First and foremost, a big change comes with the name itself. Instead of going with the branding of ‘Samsung Internet’, the company has dropped that name. Rather, they have adapted a new name for the browser, and it is now being called the ‘Samsung Browser’.
Multi-instance window
A big feature that is getting added is support for multi-instance. This feature allows the ability to run multiple windows of the browser simultaneously. While previous versions limited users to multiple tabs within a single app instance, you can now open two or more browser tabs.
This feature expands further on bigger screens like the foldables, like the Galaxy Z Fold series, as you can run tabs side by side. This would give an even more immersive experience, while the normal phones are stuck with the top/bottom split-screen view.
AI features
There are also a bunch of AI features that are getting added. You can ask specific questions about the webpage you are currently viewing. The AI can help analyse your recent browsing history to answer complex questions. For transparency, users can also choose to clear AI conversation history after a session or retain it for up to three days.
Ecosystem features
In terms of ecosystem-related features, there have also been some developments made to the cross-device resume feature. While still in early development, this feature is expected to allow users to pick up exactly where they left off when switching between a Galaxy phone, a tablet, and the new Samsung Browser for Windows.
Enhanced Security and Safety
In terms of security and safety, Samsung has worked on a lot of features. They’ve added a feature to flag malicious sites. Per Samsung, the browser is now active in giving out alerts to safeguard privacy, specifically warning users before they access known malicious or deceptive websites. Not only that, but it also includes a privacy dashboard to block third-party trackers more effectively.
