OpenAI Launches Sora AI Video App for iOS in Asian Markets

Key Takeaways

  • OpenAI’s Sora AI video app launches for iOS in Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam
  • Free to download with 15-second video generation; Pro tier offers 25 seconds
  • Features include Thai language support, Cameo digital identities, and dual watermarks

OpenAI has launched its Sora AI video creation app for iOS devices, initially available in Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The free application enables users to generate and remix videos using artificial intelligence, marking its first expansion beyond North American markets.

Availability and Access

Sora is currently free to download for iOS users in the three launch countries. Android users will need to wait for a future release. The app debuted in the United States and Canada in early October.

Initially, no invitation code is required for access. However, OpenAI notes that as user numbers increase and GPU capacity becomes strained, an invite system may be implemented.

Key Features and Capabilities

Sora allows users to create new videos or remix content shared by others within the platform. The application includes a social feed where creators can share their work and discover inspiration.

Notably for Thai users, the app supports input prompts in the Thai language. The Cameo feature enables users to upload photos or videos (with explicit consent) to create digital identities for AI video generation.

Safety and Subscription Tiers

Every Sora-generated video includes both invisible and visible digital watermarks for user and viewer safety. Free users can create videos up to 15 seconds long, while Pro subscribers get 25-second clips and access to advanced Storyboard creation tools.

Potential Concerns

While Sora significantly simplifies video content creation, concerns exist about its remixing capability. The feature allows users to incorporate others’ shared content into their own creations, which could potentially lead to copyright issues or stifle original creativity despite OpenAI’s consent-based sharing model.
