Key Takeaways

  • Free ChatGPT Go for one year in India
  • Registration opens November 4 for limited period
  • Available to both new and existing subscribers
  • Coincides with OpenAI’s Bengaluru DevDay event

What is ChatGPT Go?

Launched in India in August, ChatGPT Go is a budget-friendly subscription tier created in response to user demand for more accessible AI tools. The plan provides:

  • Higher message limits
  • Image generation capabilities
  • File upload features

This makes it suitable for both everyday and professional AI applications.

India’s Strategic Importance

India was among the first markets to receive ChatGPT Go, highlighting OpenAI’s strategic focus on the region. Within just one month of launch, paid ChatGPT subscribers in India more than doubled, leading to the plan’s expansion to nearly 90 global markets.

India has now become one of ChatGPT’s largest markets worldwide.

Company Statement

OpenAI described this promotion as continuing their “India-first” commitment while supporting the IndiaAI Mission. The company noted this reinforces the growing AI momentum in India as the country prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year.

Leadership Perspective

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, expressed enthusiasm about the Indian response since ChatGPT Go’s debut.

“Since launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from our users has been inspiring,” Turley said. “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”
