India’s Indigenous 4G Network Deployed on 1 Lakh BSNL Towers

India’s fully indigenous 4G technology, the Bharat Telecom Stack, has been successfully deployed across approximately 100,000 BSNL towers and is now ready for global export, according to a recent report. This milestone positions India among only five nations worldwide with complete end-to-end telecom stack capability.

Key Benefits of Bharat Telecom Stack

  • Faster and more reliable internet speeds
  • Enhanced network resilience and seamless connectivity
  • Improved broadband coverage in rural and remote areas
  • Strengthened digital sovereignty and cybersecurity
  • Upgradable path to 5G and future 6G capabilities

The indigenous 4G stack represents a significant technological achievement, reducing India’s traditional reliance on foreign telecom equipment suppliers from countries like the US, China, Europe, and South Korea. By mastering this complex technology, India has closed a critical dependency gap and gained full control over its telecom infrastructure.

Technical Implementation

The system utilizes core network technology from C-DOT, radio equipment from Tejas Networks, and systems integration by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). This homegrown solution not only enhances national security but also positions India as a potential exporter of telecom technology, creating new foreign exchange earnings opportunities.

The government and industry expect that domestic telecom equipment manufacturing, supported by schemes like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI), will attract more investments, stimulate high-skill job creation, and catalyze a high-value manufacturing ecosystem.
