Apple launches MacBook Pro with M5 Pro, M5 Max chips alongside new Studio Display models: Price, features

Apple has unveiled the latest MacBook Pro models with new M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets. The company has also launched new Studio Displays. The new devices join the company’s latest string of launches ahead of the March 4 event.

The Cupertino giant states that the new chips are the most advanced chips for “pro laptops.” Here are all the details.

MacBook Pro M5 Pro and M5 Max full specs and features

The MacBook Pro models feature major performance improvements. The M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets feature 18 core CPUs with 6 super cores, that the company claims are the fastest CPU cores in the world. The remaining 12 cores are new performance cores that can handle heavy workloads with efficiency. Apple claims that the chipsets deliver up to 30 per cent faster performance compared to the previous generation.

AI is also a key focus for the new MacBook Pro models. As per the company, the new chipsets use the same Neural Accelerator as the base M5 SoC, with up to 4 times faster Large Language Model (LLM) prompt processing than the M4 Pro and M4 Max chipsets. The new models are also up to 8 times faster in image generation compared to the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.

Apple claims that the new chipsets will allow motion designers to work on complex 3D screens in real-time, with up to 50 per cent better graphics performance.

The MacBook Pro models will come in two screen sizes – 14 inches and 16 inches. Both displays are Liquid Retina XDR panels with up to 1600 nits of peak brightness.

Storage speeds are also claimed to be 2 times faster than last year. While the M5 Pro MacBook Pro comes with 1TB of storage as standard, the M5 Max gets 2TB of storage.

The rest of the specifications remain identical to the M5 MacBook Pro that was launched late last year.

MacBook Pro M5 Pro and M5 Max price in India

MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chipset starts at Rs 2,49,900 in India. While the M5 Max model carries a price tag of Rs 3,99,900. Pre-orders for both models start on March 4.

Apple Studio Display full specs and features

Apart from new MacBooks, the company has finally given an update to the Apple Studio Display, alongside a new XDR model.

The base Studio Display now gets a 12-megapixel centre stage selfie camera, while retaining the 27-inch Retina display panel. Apple claims that the device can show the full P3 wide colour spectrum. The screen has a peak brightness of 600 nits.

The Studio Display XDR goes a step further. Apple claims that it uses the most advanced display technology from the company. The display comes with a 27-inch 5K XDR panel with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. You also get support for Adobe RGB colour gamut in addition to P3. The refresh rate can also switch between 47Hz to 120Hz.

You can also buy accessories for the Studio Displays, such as Apple’s tilt and height adjustable stand.

Apple Studio Display price in India

The base Studio Display is priced at Rs 1,89,900 in India. You will need to shell out Rs 3,99,900 for the Studio Display XDR. Pre-orders for both devices begin tomorrow.
