IND vs NED: Washington Sundar returns, Axar rested for final game before Super 8s

India made two changes to their XI as Washington Sundar featured in his first match of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The all-rounder replaced Axar Patel, who skipper Suryakumar Yadav confirmed had been rested for the clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, February 18. The defending champions entered their final group-stage fixture ahead of the Super 8s, taking on the Netherlands with the aim of maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.

At the toss, Suryakumar Yadav elected to bat first in the Group A encounter against the Netherlands.

India head into the contest on the back of a commanding 61-run victory over Pakistan, a result that secured their passage into the Super Eights. The Netherlands, meanwhile, suffered a heavy 93-run defeat to the USA in their previous outing.

The Indian side made two changes, resting vice-captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, while bringing in Washington Sundar and Arshdeep Singh.

The Netherlands made one change, with Noah Croes replacing Fred Klaassen in the playing XI.

WHAT DID SURYAKUMAR YADAV SAY?

“We are going to bat first. It looks like a good surface. We practised here last night, and there was a bit of dew. Hopefully, we can put up a good total and then defend it. We’ll be playing on a similar strip in two or three days, so it’s a good chance to put the bowlers under some pressure.

“The mood in the camp has been fantastic. The boys are shaping up really well and are responding to the brand of cricket we want to play. In every game, someone has stepped up and made an impact, which is great to see. Hopefully, we get a new Man of the Match tonight before heading into the Super 8.

“We have two changes — Arshdeep comes in for Kuldeep, Axar is resting, and Washington comes in.”

WHAT DID SCOTT EDWARDS SAY?

“We would have batted first as well. It looks like a good wicket.

“Playing in India is always a great experience. We feel we’ve played some good cricket in patches but have missed a few opportunities. For us, it’s about finishing the campaign strongly.

“We’ve shown glimpses with both bat and ball, but now we’re aiming to deliver a complete performance. We have one change — Noah Croes comes in for Fred Klaassen.”
