PM Modi: 4 Crore Poor Indians Get Proper Housing, Chhattisgarh Roads Expand

Key Takeaways

  • 4 crore poor Indians received proper housing in 11 years
  • Chhattisgarh’s road network expanded to 40,000 km
  • Rs 14,260 crore worth of development projects launched
  • Medical colleges increased from 1 to 14 in 25 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that nearly four crore impoverished citizens have received proper housing under BJP government welfare schemes, while highlighting massive infrastructure growth in Chhattisgarh during its 25th statehood anniversary celebrations.

Speaking at the Chhattisgarh Rajat Mahotsav in Atal Nagar-Nava Raipur, PM Modi revealed the road network across state villages has expanded to 40,000 kilometers, with National Highway infrastructure seeing significant advancements over the past 11 years.

Transformation in Connectivity

“I have witnessed the journey of the last 25 years. We have completed 25 years, and the sun for the next 25 years is about to rise,” PM Modi told the public rally.

The Prime Minister contrasted current connectivity with earlier times when villages lacked proper road access. “Today, the road network has expanded up to 40,000 kilometres in Chhattisgarh’s villages. Entire generation has changed after 2000,” he stated.

Travel time between major cities has dramatically reduced – the Raipur to Bilaspur journey now takes half the previous duration. The state now enjoys Vande Bharat train services and flight connectivity to cities like Raipur, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur.

Housing and Healthcare Milestones

Detailing welfare initiatives, PM Modi emphasized his government’s focus on poverty alleviation. “I have witnessed poverty closely. This is why, when I was chosen to serve the country, I focused on the welfare of the poor,” he explained.

The housing achievement includes:

  • 4 crore housing units provided to poor individuals over 11 years
  • 7 lakh houses delivered in Chhattisgarh within the past year
  • 3.51 lakh completed houses celebrated during Griha Pravesh ceremony
  • Additional 3 crore housing units pledged nationwide

Healthcare infrastructure showed remarkable growth with medical colleges increasing from one to fourteen over 25 years, including AIIMS in Raipur.

Industrial Development and New Projects

PM Modi noted Chhattisgarh’s evolution from mineral extraction to industrial prominence, crediting former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh for steering the state through challenges.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 14,260 crore spanning roads, industry, healthcare and energy sectors. Key initiatives include:

  • 12 new Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme blocks across nine districts
  • Rs 1,200 crore installment released to 3 lakh PMAY-G beneficiaries
  • Four-lane Greenfield Highway from Pathalgaon-Kunkuri to Jharkhand border (Rs 3,150 crore)

The new highway will connect coal mines, industrial zones and steel plants across multiple states, creating a major economic corridor integrating Central and Eastern India.
