Tripura to roll out India’s 1st state-level AI policy: Saha

CM Manik Sahaon Thursday in the presence of Union minister of state for science and technology Jitendra Singh announced that Tripura is set to introduce the nation’s first state-level Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, with assistance from Niti Aayog and the Atal Innovation Mission.

During the launch of the State Innovation Mission here, Saha said the govt intends to implement AI-driven solutions for the management of smart city initiatives in Agartala, applications of which will concentrate on areas such as traffic regulation, parking oversight, electricity distribution, drinking water provision, flood control, waste management and property evaluation.

Saha also revealed intentions to create a Tripura AI Centre of Excellence with assistance from the ministry of electronics and information technology. Moreover, the state is gearing up to establish a Tripura IT and Data Economic Zone, along with an IT park that will offer co-working spaces to enhance the IT, IT-enabled services (ITES) and data centre ecosystem.

Elaborating on the initiative, the CM said it represents a crucial advancement in enhancing the state’s innovation ecosystem. He emphasised the state govt’s commitment to administrative reforms, digital governance and forward-thinking industrial and startup policies. He underlined that Tripura has successfully achieved a fully paperless operation across all tiers of governance, from the cabinet and state secretariat to village councils and gram panchayats — thereby enhancing transparency and efficiency.

The CM indicated that the mission is part of Niti Aayog’s State Support Mission, which is intended to assist states and Union Territories in developing localised innovation ecosystems that align with their unique strengths.
