: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the provisional answer keys and response sheets for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. The GATE 2026 computer-based test (CBT) was conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 across the country for 30 subjects. The examination featured a mix of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions, demanding both precision and conceptual clarity. Now, with the provisional keys out, candidates can measure their performance with cold arithmetic.

Candidates can follow the elucidated here to download the GATE answer key 2026 from the official website:

  • Visit the official website: gate2026. iitg. ac. in

  • Click on the link for “GATE 2026 Answer Key and Response Sheet. ”

  • Log in using your application number, registered email address, and password.

  • Download the provisional answer key.

  • Save and print the response sheet for score calculation.

GATE answer key 2026: Objection window opened

IIT Guwahati has also activated the answer key challenge link. Candidates who find discrepancies in any answer can raise objections within the stipulated time frame on the official portal.

This is not a symbolic exercise. Every valid challenge will be scrutinised by subject experts. Only after reviewing these objections will the institute publish the final answer key. The result will be based strictly on that final version.

GATE 2026: Marking scheme and score calculation

With the provisional key and response sheet in hand, candidates can now calculate their estimated scores. For most papers, including AE, AG, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, ME, and others that include Engineering Mathematics, the total marks are 100. The structure is:

  • 15 marks for General Aptitude

  • 85 marks for the core subject

Following a two-part format are papers such as GG, AR, and GE. The compulsory section and the optional section make up these parts, whereas General Aptitude carries marks for 15 across all papers.

Candidates should also keep in mind that some MCQs have negative marks, while MSQs and NAT-type questions do not have negative marks.

One should be careful in their calculation. It is recommended that candidates submit their objections with proper evidence before the time limit.
