Channing Tatum speaks on Hollywood’s streaming struggles, calls the system ‘upside down’

Channing Tatum is known for his easy charm on screen. But during a recent interview, he got very real about how much the movie industry has changed because of streaming platforms.

The actor appeared on the popular show ‘Hot Ones’ with Sean Evans to promote his upcoming film ‘Roofman’. While answering the famous spicy wing questions, Tatum didn’t hold back when talking about the current state of Hollywood.

He said that the system of making movies feels like a “confused pipeline” now. In simple words, he explained that streaming platforms have shaken up the way films are made, and not always for the better. According to him, many filmmakers today feel forced to make projects just for money rather than putting their best energy into creating movies that audiences truly deserve.

“When someone asks you to do a movie now, the process is messy. It feels like you’re being pushed to do things that aren’t very good just to get paid,” Tatum admitted. “But I want good movies; the kind I grew up watching and paying for. I want to give my money to films that actually deserve it.”

Even though he was critical, Tatum also said he believes this disruption will eventually lead to positive changes. He thinks the arrival of streaming was necessary and that the industry will “morph” into something better over time. “It had to change,” he said. “I really do believe something good is going to come from this.”

During the chat, the ‘Lost City’ star also showed his playful side by joking about some of his own past films. He laughed while calling his 2010 romantic drama ‘Dear John’ “generic.” He also joked about his blink-and-miss-it cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, saying, “I was in it for two seconds, so I don’t really feel like part of it.”

As for what’s next, Channing Tatum is keeping busy. His new film ‘Roofman’ is going to release in theaters on October 10. He also has a packed slate of upcoming projects, including ‘Kockroach’ with Zazie Beetz and Oscar Isaac, ‘Dance Partners’ alongside Charlize Theron, and ‘Calamity Hustle’ with Ryan Reynolds.
