Akshay Kumar, who is gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Bhoot Bangla’, recently delighted audiences while hosting the game reality show Wheel of Fortune. During a lively interaction with contestants, the actor shared a nostalgic memory after one participant revealed that she is Sindhi. What began as a casual exchange soon turned into a hilarious and heartwarming moment.
A phone call that became a comedy moment
When contestant Vidhi Bharani mentioned her Sindhi roots, Akshay responded warmly, “Mujhe Sindhi bahut hi pyaari bhasha lagti hai. ” He then went on to narrate a funny incident from his past.
Recalling the moment, he shared that he once called a Sindhi friend, and his friend’s mother answered the phone, saying, “Soya pada hai, uthaun uss ko.” Akshay confessed that he misheard it as “mara pada hai,” which left him completely stunned at the time. His dramatic retelling of the mix-up had the audience roaring with laughter.
Sweet words and playful banter
The conversation soon turned adorable. Vidhi asked if she could say something in Sindhi and told him, “Mokhe taam se jaam pyaar aa,” explaining that it means “I love you. ”
Keeping the cheerful mood alive, Akshay then asked a woman in the audience to say “I love you” in Marwadi.
When she struggled to respond, he jokingly remarked that she probably doesn’t say it often — sparking another wave of laughter.
He also shared a personal detail, revealing that his mother spoke Sindhi fluently and had many Sindhi friends with whom she would often play cards.
Saluting women who pursue education
Later in the episode, contestant Ashu Jain shared her inspiring academic journey — completing her MTech at 44 and finishing her PhD at 53. Her story reminded Akshay of his wife, Twinkle Khanna, who completed her Master’s degree at 50 and now plans to pursue a PhD.
Admiring their determination, he said, “Inhe dekh kar mujhe meri wife ki yaad aa gayi. My wife also completed her Master’s programme when she was 50 years old, and now she wants to pursue her PhD as well. You ladies are great.”
