Jos Buttler should be left alone: Harry Brook backs England batter before India semis

Harry Brook has thrown his support behind Jos Buttler, expressing confidence that the England batter will rediscover his form when England face India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Buttler has endured a difficult tournament, scoring just 62 runs in seven matches at an average of 8.85 and a strike rate of 106.89. He has also registered single-digit scores in each of his last five innings.

Despite the lean patch, Brook emphasised that Buttler remains one of England’s finest white-ball batters and deserves the backing and time to bounce back on the big stage.

“I think Jos should be left alone. He is one of the best players to have ever played the game and I can see him coming good,” Brook told Sky Sports.

‘PRESSURE FOR BOTH TEAMS’

Brook also acknowledged that England are unlikely to enjoy much crowd support in their clash against India. He admitted that the atmosphere is expected to be loud, with the majority of fans backing the home side.

However, Brook emphasised that England remain focused on delivering their best performance, adding that the team is prepared to handle the pressure and put its best foot forward despite the challenging environment.

“We are all really excited. I have already heard a few lads say they wanted to play India anyway. It is going to be a massive occasion with a hell of a lot of pressure for both sides,” Brook said.

“India obviously have a hell of a lot of support and I’m not sure there are going to be many people behind us. It’s going to be loud. Hopefully we can play our best cricket,” Brook added.

England have been in solid form in the World Cup, winning six of their seven matches so far. They also topped their Super 8 group with victories over Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand.

In T20 World Cups, England have beaten India in two of their five meetings since the teams first faced each other in 2007.
