Do you remember The Mask star Jim Carrey? The Hollywood actor recently surprised fans with a rare public appearance in Paris at the 51st Csar Awards, where he was honoured with the lifetime achievement Csar d’honneur. Held in the French capital, the ceremony marked one of his few public outings in the past year. His presence at the prestigious awards grabbed widespread attention, with many fans quick to notice his noticeably transformed look.
The 64-year-old Canadian-American actor, known for his roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Liar Liar, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, was filmed during a red-carpet interview. Carrey appeared in a black tuxedo with long black hair, a look that many found strikingly different. Following his onstage moment, Carrey delivered an acceptance speech in French and ended with a joke: “How was my French? Almost mediocre, right?”
Video of Carrey at the ceremony prompted numerous comments, with some users suggesting he might have undergone cosmetic procedures, while others simply denied believing the fact that he is actually Jim Carrey. One of the fans wrote, “I think he’s hired a dupe because that would be so Jim Carrey of him,” while another wrote, “I believe his face change is the result of some cosmetic work which has altered his appearance, it’s Jim, you can see the wrinkles and creases in his face if you compare pics, but sadly he’s altered his appearance where he’s become unrecognisable, hopefully he can have it corrected & fat grafts removed.”
A third user echoed similar sentiments and said, “To be honest, it still probably is Jim Carrey. It looks like he if he was going through a heck of a lot of stuff, he probably did a little bunch of plastic surgery and face, fillers, and stuff to try to make him feel better.”
Carrey’s Paris appearance is his first major public outing this year, his last being at the November 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. After a period away from leading roles, Carrey returned as Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog in 2020 and reprised the role in its sequels, including Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2025. While promoting the second installment in 2022, Carrey said he was ‘probably’ stepping away from acting, but he is set to return for Sonic 4 in 2027.
