Doesn’t matter if Pakistan qualify to semis, India will not: Amir’s big statement

Mohammad Amir has continued to draw attention with his outspoken predictions during the ongoing T20 World Cup, particularly regarding the prospects of the Indian cricket team. The former Pakistan pacer has now weighed in on India’s chances now, saying that they will not make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament.

Amir’s most recent remarks include his evaluation of India’s Abhishek Sharma, whom he described as a slogger who doesn’t have a second gear in his batting, where he can defend the ball. This statement has been met with criticism by Indian supporters and pundits.

When questioned again about his predictions for the semi-finalists, Amir responded with another bold assertion. The former pacer went on to say that even if Pakistan doesn’t make it to the final four, India will not be there.

“Pakistan will qualify. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn’t matter if Pakistan qualifies or not, India will not),” Amir said on ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, surprising even the show’s anchor.

As of now, only England and South Africa have secured their places in the semi-finals. England finished at the top of Group 2, and is expected to face either India or the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while South Africa, the tournament’s only unbeaten team so far, will play either New Zealand or Pakistan in Kolkata or Colombo.

Before the Super 8s began, Amir had stated that India wouldn’t make it to the semi-finals because South Africa and the West Indies were playing better cricket than them. After India’s loss to South Africa by 76 runs, his prediction appeared to be coming true, and the situation drew further attention as a Pakistani anchor referred to Amir as an “astrologer.”

Despite Amir’s assertions, India bounced back with a 72-run victory over Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This result has set up a crucial Group 1 Super 8s match against the West Indies, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.

WHAT INDIA, PAKISTAN NEED TO DO TO MAKE TO SEMI-FINALS?

For India, the equation remains simple. They need to beat the West Indies on Sunday, March 1, in Kolkata to book their spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Pakistan remains in contention following England’s recent win over New Zealand by four wickets in Colombo. To qualify, Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka by at least 65 runs or chase down Sri Lanka’s total in under 14 overs, overtaking New Zealand’s net run rate and earning a spot in the semi-finals.
