Uroš Medić opens up about how a backstage call from President Donald Trump changed his travel situation after his UFC win

The biggest moment of Uroš Medić’s career did not happen during his fight in Houston. It happened a few minutes later, backstage, on a speakerphone. After winning his UFC welterweight bout last weekend, Medić used his time in the Octagon to speak from the heart. He talked about his immigration worries and asked for help. Shortly after that, according to TMZ Sports, he was connected directly to Donald Trump.

Medić, who was born in Serbia, has lived in the United States for 11 years. He built his MMA journey here and holds a valid work permit through 2030. Still, he said he has been afraid to travel home because of limited paperwork. With his grandmother growing older and the UFC planning a future event in Belgrade, he felt time was running out. Then came the phone call that he says changed everything.

Uroš Medić explains how President Donald Trump promised travel support after Houston victory

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Medić described the moment in detail. He said he was completing his medical checks when UFC president Dana White asked him to step into a room. White dialed a number, turned on the speaker, and said, “Mr. President, he’s right here.”

On the line was Donald Trump. “I froze,” Medić said. “I thought maybe he would just congratulate me.” He explained that he did not expect the conversation to go beyond that.

But it did. Medić said Trump praised his performance and told him, “You pack a punch. ”

Then the talk shifted to the issue that had been weighing on him. Medić had earlier explained publicly that he was scared to leave the United States because he feared not being allowed back in.

According to Medić, Trump told him he would be fine to travel and that he would be taken care of when returning to the country. For the Serbian-born fighter, the moment felt unreal.

He remembered landing in America at 22 with just 600 dollars. He paid 400 dollars for a room and found work at Texas Roadhouse to support himself. At that time, he was new to mixed martial arts. He learned step by step, trained daily, and slowly made progress.

His hard work earned him a spot on Dana White’s Contender Series, and from there he fought his way onto the UFC roster. Today, he is ranked among the top 15 welterweights.

Even with big fights ahead and dreams of competing in Serbia, his focus right now is family. “I just want to hug my brother and see my grandma,” Medić said. He also added, “I thank the president from the bottom of my heart.”

As reported by TMZ Sports, Medić believes that one simple phone call gave him peace of mind and a chance to visit home without fear.
