Apple March event next week: iPhone 17e, affordable MacBooks and more devices set to launch

Apple is preparing for a packed week of product announcements starting Monday, March 2, with CEO Tim Cook confirming that new launches will begin “Monday morning”. While the company is not expected to host a large, stage-driven keynote, the coming days are likely to see a steady flow of hardware reveals through press releases and product videos, followed by a hands-on media experience later in the week.

Cook’s announcement came via a short teaser video showing an incomplete Apple logo being made against a silver aluminium background. The post says, “A big week ahead. It all starts Monday morning!” The minimal teaser suggests Apple is sticking to its recent strategy of letting products speak for themselves, rather than building hype around a single headline event.

People familiar with Apple’s plans indicate that the company could unveil at least five new products over three days. The focus this time appears to be on updates across iPhone, iPad and Mac line-ups, with an emphasis on more affordable devices aimed at students and everyday users.

Apple March event next week: iPhone 17e, affordable MacBooks and more devices set to launch

At the centre of attention is the expected launch of the iPhone 17e, Apple’s next entry-level iPhone. Early indications suggest the device will not bring visible design changes. The phone is expected to retain the same 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a familiar single-camera layout at the back. Reports remain divided on whether Apple will move to a Dynamic Island, but the latest information points to the notch staying in place for another year.

Camera hardware on the iPhone 17e is also tipped to remain unchanged, with a 48-megapixel main sensor offering 2x zoom through pixel cropping and a 12-megapixel front camera. While some had expected Apple to introduce a Centre Stage selfie camera, that upgrade now appears unlikely. Internally, however, the phone is expected to move to the A19 chip, which should deliver a noticeable performance bump over the current model. A switch to Apple’s newer C1X modem could also improve power efficiency. There is also growing expectation that Apple may finally add MagSafe support to its most affordable iPhone, expanding access to magnetic accessories that have been standard on higher-end models.

Alongside the iPhone, Apple is expected to refresh its iPad portfolio. A new iPad Air powered by the M4 chip is widely tipped, though changes are likely to be limited mainly to performance gains. The company is also expected to update its entry-level iPad, which could move from the current A16 chip to either an A18 or A19 processor. More efficient silicon could translate into better battery life, even if the display size and overall design remain largely unchanged.

One of the more unexpected announcements could come from the Mac side. Apple is believed to be working on a low-cost MacBook aimed at students and first-time buyers. The device is rumoured to be priced between $599 and $699 and could be offered in bright colours such as yellow and green. Instead of the usual M-series chip, Apple may use an A18 Pro processor, similar to what powers its recent Pro iPhones. If so, the laptop could still deliver performance that comfortably surpasses older entry-level Macs, while competing more directly with affordable Windows laptops.

The fifth product expected during the launch window could be a refreshed Mac Studio or a new Apple Studio Display. Supply-chain reports suggest that at least one of these devices is close to shipping, making a near-term announcement likely.

Taken together, Apple’s March launch week appears focused on refining its core lineup rather than reinventing it. With modest design changes, faster chips and a push towards more accessible pricing, the company seems to be strengthening its position across phones, tablets and laptops ahead of a busy year for consumer technology.
